Interactive Information Design Patterns for RIAs

Designing applications which convey rich information to users is difficult. We now have at our hands the ability to display massive amounts of data using rich graphics in a web browser. Unfortunately, most designs end up as a series of line charts or data grids. We need to develop and learn a new library of interactive information design patterns that facilitate a two-way conversation between users and the application.

From recent advances in mapping and intuitive, fully interactive charts and graphs to methods of decorating text descriptions with inline charts, this talk will outline the major categories of Interactive Information Design Patterns, offering suggestions on when to use them and how to employ them to maximum advantage. Session will also explore usability difficulties inherent in novel user interface components. The focus will be on emerging trends in usability and HCI including existing projects and research publications.
